# Email tracking

> How open and click tracking works in harp.

harp tracks email opens and link clicks to measure outreach engagement.

## Open tracking

A 1x1 transparent pixel is embedded in each outgoing email. When the recipient's email client loads the image, harp records an open event.

```
GET /api/tracking/open/{trackingId}
```

Returns a 1x1 transparent PNG. The `trackingId` is unique per email send.

>
> Some email clients block image loading by default. Open tracking is an approximation, not an exact count.

## Click tracking

Links in outgoing emails are rewritten to pass through harp's click tracker. When clicked, the recipient is redirected to the original URL.

```
GET /api/tracking/click/{trackingId}?url={originalUrl}
```

Returns a `302` redirect to the original URL. The click event is recorded before redirecting.

## Privacy considerations

* Tracking is per-email, not per-recipient — no cross-session tracking
* No cookies are set by tracking endpoints
* Open and click data is visible only within your workspace
